As troops withdraw from Iraq, music is moving in!
Watch how the power of music can unite people from different cultures, languages, and even religions through the simple use of a handmade drum. This 5 minute short film features a program called ASHTI Drum which means “Peace Drum” in Kurdish. In 2007, author and music therapist Christine Stevens took a team to Iraq to train Iraqis in the art of drum circle leadership. These 38 facilitators have begun drum circles all over this war-torn area, helping to create a lasting model for peace. Drumming together as a group is a powerful way to develop conflict resolution, youth empowerment, therapeutic healing and peace building. "Music rebuilds the human soul.
